Greenwich School of Management to Go West

Jul 12, 2012 4:09:49 PM / by Charlotte

Working closely with London Borough of Ealing and the Greater London Authority (GLA), Iceni Projects has secured planning permission for Stolkin Greenford Limited (SGL) to open an important new educational facility in Greenford to be operated by Greenwich School of Management (GSoM), a well-established independent provider of university education specialising in finance, management, law and related areas. The permission will secure the active reuse of a large former office building on the former GlaxoSmithKline site, and represents a significant milestone in SGL's emerging proposals for the site as a whole.

David Churchill, the Director at Iceni Projects who has led the planning work for the scheme, said:

"The principal challenges of the project were to make a robust case for the change of use from employment to education and to do so on a very tight timescale, whilst ensuring that the surrounding community was kept abreast of the proposals.

We were instructed in March 2012 to prepare the full application, which involved each of our professional teams - Planning; Transportation; Sustainability, Energy & Waste; and Community Planning, for submission in April 2012.

Following submission, London Borough of Ealing recommended that the application be approved, subject to referral to the Mayor. The GLA confirmed in early July that the strategic issues raised by the proposals - relating to loss of employment, inclusive access and transport had been satisfactorily resolved.

We're pleased to have worked closely and effectively with GSoM, officers at the London Borough of Ealing and the GLA to deliver this planning permission on a tight timescale. The application itself is part of a wider scheme, but nevertheless represents a significant win in its own right for the area. It will see GSoM expand into West London for the first time, providing educational opportunities for Greenford, and significantly boosting the local economy.”
