On Monday 7 March, the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham’s Development Control Board resolved to grant planning consent for Weston Homes’ proposals to regenerate the Abbey Park Industrial Estate, in Barking Town Centre.

The decision followed an officer’s recommendation for approval and positive feedback from the local community. The application will now be subject to the developer and the Council’s agreement of the Section 106.

Iceni provided multi-disciplinary support, with its Planning and Engagement teams working together to pave the way for the successful outcome.

The proposals for the Abbey Park Industrial Estate will deliver 118 high-quality new homes, provide new creative space in Barking’s cultural industries zone, and revitalise a key section of the river walkway.

Weston Homes’ scheme will make a significant contribution towards the ongoing regeneration of Barking. It will complement a number of high-profile redevelopment schemes that have recently been approved by the Council. This includes the plans for a new Sainsbury’s superstore at the Abbey Retail Park, the regeneration of the Gascoigne Estate and the plans for new homes at 16-48 Cambridge Road. Together, these schemes will help drive forward Barking’s economic resurgence, delivering new jobs, homes and investment.

Lyndon Gill, Planning Director at Iceni Projects, said:

“Iceni has a strong track record of working in partnership with the Council and the local community to unlock investment opportunities in the Borough.

“We are delighted to have assisted Weston Homes in securing planning approval for this exciting regeneration scheme in the heart of Barking.

“Barking has a huge amount of potential, and is rapidly becoming a regional magnet for growth. The area benefits from fantastic transport links into Central London, top-rate cultural facilities and a range of high-quality new homes. It is easy to see why Barking is increasingly viewed as London’s growth opportunity”.
